Companies that earn Platinum Club status, exemplify exceptional vision and leadership and a sustained commitment to growth and innovation,
said Dino Medves, Senior Vice-President and Head, CIBC Commercial Banking.
CIBC is proud to recognize these and all of the 2018 Canada’s Best Managed Companies as leaders in their industries.

Established in 1993, Canada’s Best Managed Companies is one of the country’s leading business awards programs recognizing Canadian-owned and managed companies for innovative, world-class business practices. Winners are an important engine of economic growth for being adaptable and sustainable in a global market. Applicants are evaluated by an independent judging panel made up of judges from Deloitte, CIBC, Canadian Business, Smith School of Business and MacKay CEO Forums. Best Managed companies share commonalities that include an emphasis on culture and people, innovation, sustained performance and strong financial results.
Being amongst the best in class requires more than financial performance,
said Peter Brown, Partner, Deloitte and Co-Leader, Canada’s Best Managed Companies program.
Achieving sustained growth and strong overall business performance is the result of the combined efforts and commitment of the entire organization. It’s much more than just financial performance; the ingredients to success also include overall business performance and sustained growth. It takes dedication and commitment from the entire organization.
Applicants are evaluated by an independent judging panel comprised of representatives from program sponsors in addition to special guest judges. 2018 Best Managed companies share commonalities that include a clear strategy and vision, investment in capability and commitment to talent.
In a business environment where many choices for electrical suppliers exist, the Best Managed designation provides the credentials that prove we can be a strong partner to our customers. Best Managed is a symbol of quality, reliability, and consistency in the Canadian marketplace,
says Tim Horsman, President and CEO of E.B. Horsman &Son.
We have consistently found that employees want to work for a Best Managed company. Best Managed status has become part of our culture, similar to our strategic ‘electrical distributor of choice’ and ‘helping communities thrive since 1900’ slogans. It is who we are and what we strive to do.
As a result of participating in the program, E.B. Horsman &Son is now guided by a strategic plan that adheres to six focus areas: operational excellence, talent management, growth and expansion, collaboration and communication, market awareness and enhanced customer experience. The initiatives that E.B. Horsman & Son undertakes in each area are integrated into the plan and rolled out over time.
We don’t do every initiative, but it is amazing that we do all of the most important ones,
adds Horsman.
Whether it’s moving our distribution centre, expanding into a new geographic area, preparing a succession plan for a highly tenured employee or growing our social responsibility in all markets, we get things done,
added Tim Horsman.
The Best Managed program is sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, Canadian Business, Smith School of Business and MacKay CEO Forums.
Canada’s Best Managed Companies continues to be the mark of excellence for Canadian‐owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million. Every year since the launch of the program in 1993, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies have competed for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates their management skills and practices. The awards are granted on four levels: 1) Best Managed winner (one of the 50 new winners selected each year); 2) Requalified member (repeat winners retain the Best Managed designation for two additional years, subject to annual operational and financial review); 3) Gold Standard Member (after three consecutive years of maintaining their Canada’s Best Managed Companies status, these winners have demonstrated their commitment to the program and successfully reapplied for the designation. Companies may requalify for two additional years, subject to annual operational and financial review). 4) Platinum Club member (winners that maintain Best managed status for a minimum of six consecutive years).
